Renée Stephens: Welcome to “Inside Out Weight Loss.” I’m your host, Renée Stephens, and together, we’re accessing and adjusting the control panel of your mind-body system, bringing ease and joy to your weight loss journey and fullness for the rest of your life. On today’s show, three simple steps to using the law of attraction to create the body and the life of our dreams.

Renée Stephens: They might come to me and say, “Well, what I want is to just be able to control myself in those desperate moments,” and I think, “Well, gosh, that sounds OK,” and I say to them, “But, you sure you want those desperate moments?” and they think, “Oh, well, I never thought that it would be possible for me to not have those desperate moments.” Another way of feeling good now is to imagine, to enjoy, to fantasize about what it is that we want. Imagine how wonderful it would be if … How wonderful it would be if we had the body of our dreams. How wonderful it would be if we were naturally slender. Oh, the joy of it all. Enjoying our food two, three, four, ten times more and eating less. It’s all about imagining and dreaming. We’ve talked a lot about dreaming. We talked early in the show about the Disney strategy, where we dream our most wonderful dreams, dreams of things that we want to create in our lives. So in step two, we create, we imagine, we dream what we’d like, and we go into all of the detail that we want.

Renée Stephens: Let’s go ahead and take a moment to arrive and become present, become present with ourselves, dropping inside and taking a moment to simply be with you. This is your time. This is your moment, dedicated to your highest good. So check in with your body. Check in how you’re feeling physically, what’s going on in your body. Are you moving or still, exercising, sitting, standing, lying down? Notice how you are physically and notice how you feel physically. How does it feel to be in your body? What’s the experience in your belly right now? What’s the experience in your legs and arms? What’s the experience in your chest? Does your heart feel open or closed? Perhaps you’re not sure. How does your head feel? What about your eyes? Notice your eyes. Take a moment to appreciate that they allow you to see. They allow you to see both when they’re open and when they’re closed.
Oftentimes, I’ll ask my clients to describe the images that they have in their mind’s eye. So take this moment to appreciate your mind’s eye, the inner seeing that you have, your ability to see pictures even though your eyes are closed. What do I mean by this? With your eyes closed, you could think about, for example, your best friend or a close friend of yours. Think about a very close friend of yours and you can tell me what color hair this person has. How can you do that? Because you can see your friend in your mind’s eye. Even though your friend isn’t physically present here, you look at your inner representation of your friend, and from that inner representation, you can say, “Oh, yes, my friend has hair that is this color,” and so you know it. You could also in your mind’s eye imagine your house, your bedroom, your kitchen … All sorts of things that you could imagine in your mind’s eye, including the vision of your own wonderful you, the you  who has somehow arrived at where you want to be. This you who is perhaps just ahead of you in the future, who’s the way that you want to be, not just physically but emotionally, psychologically, spiritually. Perhaps there’s a quality that you can see about this you, something that you can feel in your bones and energy, and you think, “Oh, that’s so nice. That’s exactly the way I want to be.” Perhaps you think about that quality. Perhaps it’s elements of calm and relaxed, or maybe it’s energized. Perhaps there’s a feeling of freedom or a sense of confidence about this wonderful you. You can imagine it any way that you want with the power of your mind’s eye and your imagination. You can create this you exactly the way that suits you best. It doesn’t have to be like the you that you used to be. In fact, you wouldn’t really want that, would you? Because there is that one thing that we know for sure about the you that you used to be, and that is that that person ended up exactly here. So when you imagine your evolving self, your future self, you want to make sure that that you has everything: the best of you from the past and something even better, even more, that allows her to grow and develop even further than where you are now or where you’ve ever been.

So as you take this time to appreciate your mind’s eye, your ability to imagine, your ability to create through your thoughts and your imagination, in fact, that’s the first step, be it by following the steps of this show or following the law of attraction, for example. We’re in the middle of a multi-part series on the law of attraction, and it always begins with dreaming. It always begins with imagining what it is that you want. It begins with feeling good and imagining, using our mind’s eye, our mind’s ear, our mind’s heart and feeling to imagine a future that we would really like to live in. You know, one of the first things I do with many of the people who I work with is teach them how to dream. They might come to me and say, “Well, what I want is to just be able to control myself in those desperate moments,” and I think, “Well, gosh, that sounds OK,” and I say to them, “But, you sure you want those desperate moments?” and they think, “Oh, well, I never thought that it would be possible for me to not have those desperate moments. Well, gosh, if I could have that, now that would be wonderful. It would be wonderful to feel calm and relaxed around food.” So, so much of the law of attraction is learning how to dream; learning how to use, to its full potential, our inner imagination.

So as you check in and become present with you, let’s take a moment to set our intention for this episode. To think about our intention for what we’d like to get out of today’s episode and perhaps beyond that—since we’ve been speaking a little bit about intention lately—is thinking or renewing our intention  for our journey, be it a weight loss journey, a peace-with-ourselves journey, or whatever the journey is that you’re on. Perhaps you’d like to renew or update your intention. It may be that a single word or image comes to your mind and that’s enough, or perhaps many come to your mind all at once and you want them all. Allow that to be your intention. And once you have your intention, notice it, appreciate it, love it, feel excited about it, and let it go, and as you let yours go, imagine the intentions, the positive intentions of all the other listeners of this show across space and time connecting and supporting one another as they create and manifest, because you know how it goes. You’ll get many, many times more out of this journey than what you put in, but you must put in to get out.

We haven’t spoken for a while about the importance and the value of support groups. The Yahoo! group around “Inside Out Weight Loss” now has over 600 members. There are so many people out there posting wonderful messages, supporting and being supported. It’s a great way to connect with others. And perhaps in your own community, within your own network of friends, there are others like you who want the same things that you want. Perhaps you could connect with them and form your own support group. You could meet by phone, by conference call, on a weekly basis, or you could meet in person in a weekly basis. You could review the episode. You could do an “Inside Out Weight Loss” club, much like a book club, for example. The research clearly does show that when we create community, when we’re supported by our community in our efforts, we are more successful. So perhaps you’d like to take this moment to set your intention to create your own support group, either through your own community of friends and family or on the Yahoo! group. As one of my teachers, Robert McDonald, says, “We are wounded in community and healed in community.”

On last week’s show, we introduced the law of attraction and began to discuss its hidden spiritual agenda, because really, living the law of attraction is a spiritual practice. In fact, almost anything can be a spiritual practice when we approach it from a place of presence and appreciation. And as a review, what the law of attraction says is that you can have anything that you want if you simply follow these simple steps of a law of attraction, and those simple steps really boil down to something … to one thing, really, and that one thing is “Feel good now.” And then the law of attraction says, “OK, well, feel good now. How are we going to feel good now? What can we do?” And that’s where lots of writing and teachings come in, and they say, “Well, one way is to be in a place and a space of gratitude and appreciation.” Appreciating what you have. Thinking back a few moments ago to how we began this episode and you may have an idea of where I was going with that: appreciating our bodies, our eyes and our mind’s eye. Appreciation puts us in a very positive, feel-good state, and by being in a feel-good state, the law of attraction says that we therefore attract more to us of the same. We attract more things into our lives that will continue that good feeling, that wonderful feeling.

Another way of feeling good now is to imagine, to enjoy, to fantasize about what it is that we want. Imagine how wonderful it would be if … How wonderful it would be if we had the body of our dreams. How wonderful it would be if we were naturally slender. Oh, the joy of it all. Enjoying our food two, three, four, ten times more and eating less. Loving exercise. Feeling like we’re deprived if we miss out on our workout, and loving to move and feel healthy in our bodies. There’s another way to feel good now, also consistent with the law of attraction, which says, “If you feel good about your dream, then you will create more good feelings in your life.” It’s time for us to take a break now to support our sponsors, and when we come back, I’ll give you three simple key steps to use the law of attraction for weight loss. This is Renée Stephens and you are listening to “Inside Out Weight Loss” on Personal Life Media.

Renée Stephens: We’re back now. Before the break, we were talking about the law of attraction and different ways that we can feel good now. And today, I’d like to walk you through three simple steps to using the law of attraction to create what you want, to create the body of your dreams, the relationship with food of your dreams. And these steps are incredibly simple because, you may remember, I love things that are really simple, really easy, and really quick. The first step to using the law of attraction, which is all about feeling good now to create what we want, is to clear: to begin from a clean slate. We cannot begin to create, to manifest, if our canvas is already cluttered. We cannot create something new … We can’t build a new house if there’s an old, dilapidated structure on the property. First we must clear. We must begin with that blank canvas. So, what does it mean to clear? What does it mean to begin with a blank canvas? It means to drop inside. It means to go to that place where we are centered, where our minds are at ease and peaceful and relaxed.

I gave a workshop several days ago and one of the people in the workshop shared with me. We were talking about how to eat and she said, “Well, every time I sit down to eat … You know, I love to cook,” she said. “I love to cook. I love to shop, I love to cook wonderful meals, but every time I sit down to eat, I’m reminded of the fact that I’m alone, and I really want to have a boyfriend or a partner in my life, and so every time I eat, this food which I’ve prepared, which I enjoy, which I like … I like this food a lot, but I’m sad because I feel so alone.”  And so, is she starting from a clean slate, from a clean plate, so to speak? Ha ha. [laughs] No, she’s not. She has that negative anchor, that negative association, so for her, the work that I advised her to do is to disconnect that association, to heal from the attachment or the reminder, the sense of loss that she has when she sits down to eat, and I recommend for that purpose that she do EFT, the technique that we’ve been talking about on the last series of episodes, to tap out her loneliness and sadness so that she can have a truly pleasant, positive experience. She must get to that place of being neutral, of having a clean slate, so that she can begin to take step two, which is create.

So, step one to creating the body of your dreams using the law of attraction is to clear, to begin with a clean slate or a blank canvas, and if you think about the way that these episodes begin, what’s the first thing we do? We take that moment to drop inside and become present. That is a moment of clearing. That is a moment of letting go of whatever may have been bothering us and simply coming to the present, to that place of a clean slate, because what is real and true is the present moment. Being fully present is always a place of a clean slate. It is always a place from which we can create anything, and isn’t that a wonderful notion, because we can get so caught up in all of our emotional issues. A client earlier today has just begun a relationship. She’s very excited, but she’s aware now of all this emotional baggage that she has and she felt kind of overwhelmed thinking about all that. “Ugh, how will I get through it all?” she thought, and the reality is that so much of that can just dissolve when we come—become present in the moment, in this moment, to our current experience. We let all of that fade away, and once we’re present, we go to step two, which is create.

Now step two, which is create, is all about imagining and dreaming. We’ve talked a lot about dreaming. We talked early in the show about the Disney strategy, where we dream our most wonderful dreams, dreams of things that we want to create in our lives. So in step two, we create, we imagine, we dream what we’d like, and we go into all of the detail that we want. We can go into a little detail or a lot of detail, and the research on intention says that the more detail that we go into, the more detail that we will get. In other words, if we just want a certain feeling, then that could come in many forms and we may get some surprises. On the other hand, if we want something quite specific, then we’ll want to dream something quite specific so that we will get exactly that. So if our dream is to be skinny, we could get that in any number of ways, some of which are not so pleasant. So we want to be very careful. Say, “Oh, I really want to be skinny,” but wait a second, you want to be skinny in negative ways. You don’t want to be skinny because you’re sick, for example. That’s no fun. So let’s be specific. And do you really want to be skinny? Maybe you want to be slender. Maybe you want to be slim and healthy. Maybe you want to be just healthy. So be specific about how you want to be. Maybe you want to be slim, fit and healthy. That’s a great combination. “I want to be slim, fit, and healthy,” and because healthy is in there, you’re specifying that this isn’t just some emaciated body. This is a healthy body that you want to create.

It’s also a great idea to be specific about the process. So when we set our intention, when we create, when we dream, we also want to think about how we want to get what we’re going to get. Do we want it to be a struggle? Do we want to have to claw our way every inch of the journey? Probably not. Perhaps we want it to be easy. Perhaps we want it to be enjoyable.  Perhaps we want it to be adventuresome. Be careful with that one because you never know how much adventure you’re going to get. But let’s be specific here. In fact, I like to say that when we are creating, when we’re dreaming, we have to come up with our statement and then we have to pause for a moment and put our lawyer hat on and look for loopholes in it so that we can be specific on what we want to create.

In this workshop, one of the attendees was saying, “Oh, I want to negotiate a place of peace in myself so that I can make healthy choices,” and I said, “Well, that … Peace, healthy choices all sounds good. Now tell me about the negotiate piece,” and it finally came out that what she really wanted was to negotiate once so that she had lasting peace, so she updated her statement with, “I want to have lasting peace,” or, “I want to negotiate once to have lasting peace,” because the negotiation was simply the means that she thought she had to go through to get what it is that she wanted. So make a statement about the process. If you want it to be easy and enjoyable, say that when you dream your dream of your body. “I want to become naturally slender permanently, easily, and enjoyably,” for example, and believe me, people who say that, who set their intent, who say that, who create that in step two here, that is what they achieve.

And the final step. Clear, create … Step three in using the law of attraction to create what we want is to release. To release. What does that mean? Now, you may remember this from the relaxed intent episode, perhaps from earlier in today’s show. The release part is all about letting go of attachment, letting go of that vice grip, letting go of that desperation, because at the end of the day, the feeling of desperation, the demand to change, puts us in what kind of emotional state, positive or negative? It puts us in a negative emotional state, because we’re as much thinking about what we want as feeling badly about it, and so we attach those two. The moment we think about what we want, we immediately associate with something that is negative, like the woman I was describing before. She would sit down … She wants to enjoy her meal, but it is completely linked in her mind to feeling lonely and bad about her situation, and as long as that linkage is there, the negative feeling will cancel out—sometimes even overwhelm—the positive feelings. And so she was actually in a state of grief and I recommended that if she were to do something on her own, she use EFT or another technique to disassociate that. So the release step is about that. When we release, we take our dream, we imagine it, and for those of you who feel some sort of connection to a higher self or a spirit or guidance, it’s a great exercise, a great symbolic gesture, to imagine almost a physical, three-dimensional image of what we want, so that we could hand this over. We could release it to Spirit, to God, to the universe. We could hand it over and say, “Here, take care of that.” We release it so that we can linger in the glow of it. We can linger in the enjoyment of imagining having it or appreciating, perhaps, what we already have, and let go of the attachment to the actual thing.
So the three steps—and we’ll be talking about this more—to using the law of attraction for weight loss are: one, clear. Start with a clean slate, become present, let go of what’s bothering you. Two, create. Create means to dream, to imagine in detail. And three is to release what it is that we want.
That brings us to the end of our show today. Thank you for being present.
