Garrick Schmitt is Group Vice President of User Experience at Razorfish in California. Over the past seven years, he has worked with a range of Fortune 500 clients and industry leaders to help shape memorable user experiences that deliver measurable results. Today, he leads a team of interaction designers, information architects, content strategists, and user researchers across a wide variety of engagements in the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices.
Garrick specializes in developing intuitive web-based experiences for both consumers and businesses. Recently, Garrick led the website redesign for several specialty retailers, and the development of a new product for a leading mobile game distribution company. He is also the author of FEED, Razorfish’s annual digital consumer and brand insights report.
Garrick leads an in-house innovation team at Razorfish that is focused on next-generation consumer applications and technologies -- including social media, viral messaging, mobile applications and IPTV. The group recently launched Smartpox.com, a mobility-based online community and viral messaging application, and MMOD, a publisher’s tool for audio, video and podcasting content.
Prior to joining Razorfish, Garrick developed localized broadband content at Cox Interactive Media for Excite @Home and worked on early search and directory services for CNET's Search.com and Snap.com, a media portal that later became NBCi.
Garrick has a background in print and online journalism; his writing has appeared in a variety of publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, CNET, The Chicago Daily Southtown (a Chicago Sun-Times property) and other various publications.
Additionally, Garrick has spoken widely at a number of conferences and forums, including the IA Summit, ad:Tech, the AIGA’s INTERaction | interACTION series at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) and InternetWorld.
Garrick holds a B.A. in English Literature with a concentration in Cinema Studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
