Renee Stephen: Lets take a moment to become present with ourselves by dropping inside, as I share a bliss journey, courtesy of blisstrips.com, where you can have a blissful journey emailed to your inbox every morning free of charge. You’re a drop of clean, clear water hanging on the edge of a blade of grass. You’ve descended from the heavens to refresh the earth. Feel yourself shimmer as the sun comes from behind a cloud, sparkling and glowing. Your surface reflects everything around you, a mirror to the shiny world. A little puff of breeze pulls you from the edge. Plop, you land softly on the warm rich soil. Feel yourself soaking into the ground, spreading out at the edges, luxuriating yourself deeply into the earth. With each breath you settle farther and farther down, through the layers, cleansing and cleaning as you go, down, down, down through the ground, until you settle into the flow of an underground river, trickling through the earth on your way to the expansive ocean. And as you sink further into this episode, know that you are not alone. You’re joined by many, many fellow listeners of this podcast, and by many, many millions more people who know the weight struggle, who are in the weight struggle. I remember that time over 20 years ago when I first sat in a meeting of Overeaters Anonymous, surrounded by a whole room full of other compulsive overeaters. I was in awe, because I thought my problem was my big secret, my big flaw, the thing that if anyone knew of because it was so weird and so horrendous, they would immediately think me some sort of freak or crazy person. And that there were all these people who had the same issues as I do. And so much healing came to me just when I opened my heart and my awareness to the presence of others who could empathize with me, who knew where I was coming from. Know that there are many more just like you, who have the same feelings, the same experiences, and maybe even the same behaviors, maybe even the ones that you are most ashamed of, most unhappy with. And by uniting with them, by connecting with other likeminded people, other people on the same journey, not to commiserate, not to say, “Oh my gosh, isn’t this the pits”, but rather with a shared intent to end the weight struggle and share your abundant souls gifts, there’s a magic, there’s a power to collective intent when we come together as human beings, as people who know the same story, who have shared a history and experience. And we come together with a shared intent, a shared intent to improve our lives, to get out of our own way, to forgive ourselves, recognizing both are humanity and our exceptional qualities as we let the conflicts of the struggle, the judgments against ourselves and others, fade away, dissolve into the background, and we discover that underneath it all there’s something that unites us that we share. Perhaps you think of it as a light. Perhaps you feel it as a presence. Perhaps it even sounds like a beautiful symphony or angelic voices. I remember being a tourist in London years ago, and I went down to Westminster Abbey, and it just so happens when I was visiting Westminster Abbey the Boys Chorus entered the Abbey and began singing. It was an extraordinary experience, to hear the sweet voices of those young boys singing in that Abbey, it truly felt like an angelic presence was there. It was so beautiful. And you realize that this presence, this light, this thing inside each of us, something that connects us with others, somehow not only do each of us have it, but we all have it. And by connecting at this level, this level underneath judgment, underneath behaviors, underneath personalities even, we connect in a profound way, and somehow when we come together with a shared intent to bring peacefulness, to end our struggle, to bring unity where once there was conflict, to bring compassion and kindness. There’s something about that kind of connection, that seems to supercharge, that seems to turbo charge our intent. And that’s why I’m so grateful that I can share this podcast with so many of you, and we can unite in our shared intent. And we can unite through the Yahoo group, through connecting with our friends and family members and colleagues, with a shared vision, a shared intent, to share our abundant souls gifts. Imagine for a moment a world where each of us did that. Where each being shared their unique and abundant souls gifts. It almost defies imagination, doesn’t it? Sometimes I have to go back to a small microcosm and imagine what if my family did that, what if my community did that. What a wonderful thought. Maybe I’ll post something on the blog about it, and you can share what your vision is; of a community, of a family, of a world where everyone shared their abundant souls gifts.

Renee Stephens: I’d like to share with you an email that really touched me that I recently got from a listener. This listener had emailed me several months earlier when she just discovered the podcast, was very excited about it, and now she writes, “It’s been five months since I first started listening and sent the email below. Since then my life has changed for the better in so many ways. I’ve lost 20 pounds, and although losing weight was one of my goals, my ultimate goal was to be satisfied in my own body and to get out from under the self-loathing thoughts about food and weight that consumed my daily activities.” She continues, “The greatest thing about listening to the show is that I now feel love for myself and my body. I’m comfortable in my own skin, and I can feel the light all around me growing bigger and brighter with each day. I found new relationships that I never thought possible, and I found comfort in my body. Thank you for sharing this wonderful gift. I will keep listening and learning with an intent to continue to develop peace and joy within.” I think it shows as I read that to you, because it’s so beautiful.

Renee Stephens: We’ve just finished a seven part series on easing exercise motivation. I’m wondering how you’re doing. I’d love to hear, so go to the blog at personallifemedia.com/renee and post a comment. Tell me how you’re moving, how you’re loving your exercise, if you discovered something new, tell me what’s going on for you. And on today’s show I want to talk about something that may, at first glance, seem a little off topic, but in fact it’s actually quite related to ending the weight struggle and sharing our abundant souls gifts. I want to talk a little bit about abundance, and in fact, the contrast to abundance of the current economic situation. Right now it’s time to take a short break to support our sponsors, and when we come back more on abundance and weight loss. We’re working up to a very powerful exercise. This is Renee Stephens, and you are listening to Inside Out Weight Loss on Personal Life Media.

Renee Stephens: We’re back now. It’s time to talk about abundance and scarcity. Is the economy getting you down? I can tell you that I have struggled with the daily news reports of doom and gloom, and I find that the economic pessimism has infected me like a thought virus and it’s time to come out. It’s time to turn things around and move from a mindset of scarcity to a mindset of abundance, to focus on what we have rather than what we don’t have. I’d like to share something I read in the April issue of Oprah Magazine in Martha Beck’s column. And she talks about something really kind of cool. She talks about just in time versus just in case. Just in time is the concept again from Total Quality Management, which we talked about in an earlier episode where we talked about continuous improvement. And just in time is the idea that rather than stockpile loads of inventory for your production line, you have the amount that you need delivered just in time for manufacturing. What this does for manufacturers is it allows them to carry less inventory. In other words, they need to carry less inventory, which means they need to spend less money on inventory, so it allows them to be more efficient. Just in case, on the other hand, says lets stockpile a whole bunch of stuff just in case we need it. Does that sound familiar to any of you? If you have extra stuff in your house or you don’t want to throw something away or give it away or recycle it, because just in case you might need it? And what Martha Beck says is that when she counsels her clients to move to just in time, which is founded in the idea of trust, trust that there will always be enough, that your needs will always be met, often times if they need to lose weight they actually do lose weight as they move into this place of trust, even though she’s not a weight loss counselor. Why? Because the foundation is one of abundance, that our needs will always be met, that there always will be enough for us to survive. And one of the exercises that she recommends is listing ten areas where you have too much of something, not too little. So here’s a hint; if you want to do this exercise, which I began to do, which is look in your closets. When I think about my closets, and I like to think that as a Virgo I don’t like to keep clutter around and I’ve always got a giveaway bag going, that I’m fairly lean compared to many. And yet, when I think of what I have too much of, I think, well gosh, I have too many clothes, maybe I have too many shoes. Maybe we have too much stuff in our kitchen pantry. And I don’t even consider myself a shopper or a hoarder. The fact of the matter is we live in a time of extraordinary abundance in the industrialized world. Just walk into a grocery store. I can tell you that in other parts of the world it’s not like it is here. In the United States you can walk into a grocery store 24 hours a day, pretty much seven days a week and find an abundance of food; fresh produce, canned food, everything, there’s tons of it. We live in a time and a place of tremendous abundance. So what if we really internalize this mindset, that in fact there really is always enough, in fact more than enough? What if we simply trusted that we would have enough when we needed it? And so we could let go of the extra weight on our bodies. Because what is it? It is extra food storage. It’s emergency energy stores in case of famine. And the reality is that most of us will never have a real famine unless we self-impose one through a fast or something like that, which sadly only reinforces the mindset of scarcity, because our bodies say, “See, I told you so. I knew a famine was coming up. I’m so glad I held onto all this stuff.” And the great news is that if we shift to a mindset of trust and abundance, it will not only help our bodies, but also our pocketbooks. I mentioned earlier that the current economic situation in many ways is like a thought virus that is infecting so many of us. We believe it’s bad, so therefore it is bad. As Franklin Roosevelt said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” And so if we release the fear and replace it with trust, with light, with a deep belief in abundance, imagine what that would be like.

Renee Stephens: Alright, I’m going to share with you a really silly fantasy that I have. Imagine that all the weight that we release from our bodies becomes deposits into our bank accounts. Isn’t that silly? Just imagine that. Wouldn’t that be so fun? Wouldn’t that be delicious? Imagine every pound you lost meant a big old deposit into your bank account. One pound down, $500 dollars up, one pound down, $5,000 dollars up. Wouldn’t that be cool? Now there would be an economic stimulus package. Hey, it pays to be fanciful from time to time. So here’s what we’re going to do together in the next episode of Inside Out Weight Loss; what we’re going to do is create something called an anchor. Have I talked to you about anchors before? Anchors are reminders that bring us to a certain feeling state. So an anchor could be a song that takes you immediately back to your childhood. Or a specific smell that reminds you of someone that you loved. An anchor could be anything like that. An anchor is another word for a reminder that consistently takes you back to a certain thing or place or something, someone, a time. So what we’re going to do is create an abundance anchor, okay. An abundance anchor, an anchor of trust in the universe. But before we do that I want you to do Martha Beck’s exercise. I want you to think about all of the things that you have too much of. Write down a list of all the things that you have too much of, that really, it’s more than you actually need. Think about when you pack a suitcase and you travel, and you have enough in one little suitcase, as opposed to a whole home full of stuff. And then, thank you Martha Beck, here’s a second exercise that she lists in her article; you can write down a list of all of the things, five, ten, fifteen, a hundred things, where they have come to you easily just in time. Where they’ve come to you just when you need them. Without planning, without extra hard work that, they just showed up just at that right moment when you needed it. And with your two lists you’ll be in a great state for the next episode of Inside Out Weight Loss where we create this anchor, this reminder, that you’re going to fire off to use multiple times in a day, to create a higher vibration in law of attraction terms, which will be attracting more delicious, delightful, just in time abundance into your life as you release weight from your body.
