Max Dashu: Founder of the Suppressed Histories Archives
Max Dashú teaches global women's history and goddess traditions. In 1970 she founded the Suppressed Histories Archives to research female shamans, goddess iconography, mother-right, patriarchy, and the history of domination.
Drawing on her archive of over 15,000 slides, and a fast-growing digital archive, she has created 100 visual presentations foregrounding women in history, religion and culture. She has been a featured speaker at universities, conferences, museums, and community centers. She is completing the first volume of Secret History of the Witches, which looks at priestesses, goddesses and ceremony in ancient Europe.
Her acclaimed dvd Women's Power in Global Perspective was released in 2008, and more recently she has published posters of ancient Female Icons, and Sacra Vulva. She is also an artist who paints goddesses and bold and spirited women.
