Gaylon Ferguson: Acharya and Ph.D.

Gaylon Ferguson received his undergraduate training at Yale University and his doctorate in cultural anthropology from Stanford University in 1996. He has since taught at Stanford and the University of Washington, and has been teacher in residence at the Karme-Choling Buddhist Meditation Center, the San Francisco Zen Center and the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California. Gaylon is also an acharya in the shambhala lineage. As a visiting scholar at Naropa before joining the Interdisciplinary Studies Department as associate professor in July 2006, he taught courses in West African religions and Buddhist studies. Among his publications is an article in Dharma, Color, and Culture: New Voices in Western Buddhism from and the book Natural Wakefulness: Discovering the Wisdom We Were Born With (Shambhala Publications).
